Amey’s Traffic Scotland term contract covers the planned maintenance, fault management and rectification, repair and general works for Traffic Scotland’s National Driver Information and Communication System (NADICS) across Scotland’s motorway and trunk roads network, with the largest concentration of equipment being in the Scottish central belt.
Our main role is to carry out planned maintenance and fault rectification services on all the NADICS equipment and infrastructure to ensure maximum availability of the assets during the contract period. Under the general works element of the contract we provide reactive work, such as equipment reinstatement after damage, and proactive work, such as asset renewals and upgrades.
The communications infrastructure uses utility company radio circuits, PSTN and leased analogue and digital circuits, as well as a private network formed by motorway multi-pair copper communications cable and single-mode fibre-optic cable.
The services we provide for this contract include; routine planned maintenance, fault analysis and rectification, provision of emergency response, asset evaluation and monitoring, electrical inspection and certification to BS7671 highways electrical installations and installation, testing and commissioning of highways electrical/electronic equipment and infrastructure. Liaison with stakeholders such as the police, trunk road Operating Companies, local authorities, bridge operators utility companies and software contractors is also an essential element of the contract, to ensure that the contract runs smoothly.
There are 15 remote installations or control centres and a National Network Control Centre located in Glasgow driving in the region of 7,500 assets located from Carlisle, in the south, to Wick in the north and across the breadth of Scotland. The Inventory includes: information systems, regulatory signage, traffic monitoring systems and emergency systems.
