I am a Human Resources Business Partner working within our business services division in Scotland and Ireland. One of my key responsibilities is ensuring the correct procedures and practices are adhered to in relation to the management of personnel.
My first position working for Amey was as Office Manager for the Glasgow Schools Public Private Partnership contract. Amey sponsored me to undertake my Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development qualification and I was subsequently promoted to HR Manager and then HR Business Partner.
Human Resources is a discipline I had maintained interest in since University but it was the particular challenges of the support services sector that motivated me to pursue an HR role. The nature of our business means that a lot of employees are TUPE transferred into the organisation. This process presents challenges around building a good level of trust and rapport with employees and ensuring that managers have the tools to communicate effectively with staff during the transfer.
One of my biggest achievements whilst working for Amey was helping our division achieve IIP accreditation. For me, achieving this status says a great deal about the culture and life at Amey. It’s about being treated fairly, respecting one another; being listened to, developed and feeling valued and in turn, people feel motivated and loyal to Amey.
The steering group worked really hard to help attain accreditation and demonstrated how well teams at Amey work together and how focused we are on achieving results. Everyone involved maintained a positive focus throughout the whole process, everyone understood and supported what we were trying to achieve.
I’m certain that Amey will continue to inspire me to keep getting better at what I do and subsequently help the company to continually improve. Amey is already an organisation that people want to work for but there are always challenges to be met and improvements to be made!
