Emily Brown is Legal Counsel in Amey’s legal team. She joined Amey after training in New Zealand as a solicitor and has been supporting a variety of Amey’s bidding activities and working on a broad range of legal issues.

When I joined Amey in 2004 it was an exciting time for me. It was my first role as a Solicitor in the UK, after undertaking my legal training in New Zealand.

My journey through the company for me represents the kind of culture we have at Amey. It’s obvious that it’s an organisation that really cares about career development. Every member of my team has provided a strong network to help me in both my formal and informal development.

Qualifying as a solicitor in the UK was a big milestone for me and my consequential promotion has indicated how supportive the organisation is about helping people to progress and achieve their ambitions.

The diversity of the business is what really excites me about coming to work everyday. As a solicitor at this stage in my career, there is a wealth of opportunity to gain exposure to all areas of the law before I begin to specialise in a specific area.

Working on the Northern Irelands roads bid was a particular achievement for me. Not only is the PFI sector an interesting field, particularly in contractural matters, but I've really enjoyed the opportunity to have key input and involvement into Amey's bidding activities.

I definitely see myself staying with Amey and hope to progress over time. Not only is the work stimulating but I strongly feel that the organisation enables me to achieve a good work/life balance. I'm getting married soon and Amey has allowed me to take extended leave for my honeymoon: an example of how supportive the organisation is with regard to employee's personal lives, as well as their career development.
